Hebrews 9: 21 - 22 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry. And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
As we study the tabernacle, there is one outstanding feature that I want
you to see as we start, and that is the fact that the tabernacle was a
House of Blood. Blood was every where, it was in every service. As the tabernacle speaks of Jesus Christ, it, of course, speaks of the blood of Jesus Christ. If there is one point driven home to the nation Israel it is the fact that blood is sacred; and, without this shedding of blood there is no remission of sin. This nation, the nation Israel, was literally a blood soaked nation. There was blood in their history when they were delivered from the house of bondage, from Egypt, by the Passover. It was by blood.
1/ Exodus 24: 3, 4, 8 And Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the Lord hath said will we do. And Moses wrote all the words of the Lord, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the Lord hath made with you concerning all these words.
Here you have the story of the nation Israel willingly going under the law. For they said with one voice, “All the words which the LORD hath said will we do.” And, you will notice right away Moses built an altar, made a sacrifice then, according to verse 8 And Moses took the blood and sprinkled it on the people and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words.
Oh, the poor, poor, blind fools! They wanted to live by what they could do, but right away God sprinkled them with blood at this very moment. Right over their clothing. Some of them had on expensive clothing, but it mattered not—they needed to be covered by blood.
2/ Hebrews 9: 21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.
Blood was everywhere —on all the furniture, on the veils, it was everywhere.
3/ God was teaching the nation Israel the sacredness of blood.
Notice Leviticus 17: 10 - 12 And whatsoever man there be of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, that eateth any manner of blood; I will even set my face against that soul that eateth blood, and will cut him off from among his people. For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Therefore I said unto the children of Israel, No soul of you shall eat blood, neither shall any stranger that sojourneth among you eat blood.
And here no person was allowed to eat blood and no person was allowed to eat any flesh or meat form which the blood had not been thoroughly drained. The sanctity of blood and the sacredness of blood was ever before these folks.
Then go over to Acts 15: 19 - 20 Wherefore my sentence is, that we
trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
Here He said that the Gentiles are to abstain from pollution of idols, from fornication, and from things strangled and from blood. Here again, the children of Israel are reminded of the sacredness of blood, And without the shedding of blood there could be no remission. So, as we study the tabernacle was must ever think of the shedding of blood.
4/ But now let us get back to the two veils that are in the Tabernacle. We studied the veil that was right in front of the Ark of the Covenant—the veil that kept individuals from going into the presence of God. This was the most beautiful piece of tapestry that was ever upon the face of the earth. It had all the colors that it needed—the blue, the Heavenly color, the purple the Kingly color, and the scarlet, the color of blood. We said that this veil represents the flesh of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in His flesh, He’s Heavenly, in His flesh, He’s Kingly, and in His flesh, His blood was shed for the remission of sin.
5/ We said this flesh was not the result of pro-creation, but rather, the act of creation was necessary. This was perfect, sinless flesh. He did not receive this flesh from Mary, but from God.
6/ Now remember, this veil taught two things: It taught the way to God, and then it taught the way to God was not open. But, when Jesus Christ died, the veil was ripped in two and the way was open to God.
7/ Then we are told, the Cherubim were woven into this veil. Now, you remember there were Cherubims over the Ark of the Covenant. There was a statue on each side and their faces were looking down at the lid of the Ark, the Mercy Seat, looking for blood. We said the Cherubim are a picture or a gift of Gods grace speaking that the way is open. For we use the law of first mention, when we studied them in connection with the Garden of Eden. We said at that point, they weren’t God’s policemen, but rather, they were man’s protector. Because God says the angels are ministering spirits, and they kept the way open to the altar.
8/ But now, Cherubims speak of something else as well.
Ezekiel 10: 4 Then the glory of the Lord went up from the cherub, and
stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the
cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the Lord's glory.
Then the glory of the Lord went up from the cherub, and the word Cherub is the singular, and it has to do with the glory of the Lord. Let us notice something else about the cherubims—something you won’t understand and you can’t understand.
Ezekiel 10: 1 - 20 Then I looked, and, behold, in the firmament that was above the head of the cherubims there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne. And he spake unto the man clothed with linen, and said, Go in between the wheels, even under the cherub, and fill thine hand with coals of fire from between the cherubims, and scatter them over the city. And he went in in my sight. Now the cherubims stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court. Then the glory of the Lord went up from the cherub, and stood over the threshold of the house; and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the Lord's glory. And the sound of the cherubims' wings was heard even to the outer court, as the voice of the Almighty God when he speaketh. And it came to pass, that when he had commanded the man clothed with linen, saying, Take fire from between the wheels, from between the cherubims; then he went in, and stood beside the wheels. And one cherub stretched forth his hand from between the cherubims unto the fire that was between the cherubims, and took thereof, and put it into the hands of him that was clothed with linen: who took it, and went out. And there appeared in the cherubims the form of a man's hand under their wings. And when I looked, behold the four wheels by the cherubims, one wheel by one cherub, and another wheel by another cherub: and the appearance of the wheels was as the colour of a beryl stone. And as for their appearances, they four had one likeness, as if a wheel had been in the midst of a wheel. When they went, they went upon their four sides; they turned not as they went, but to the place whither the head looked they followed it; they turned not as they went. And their whole body, and their backs, and their hands, and their wings, and the wheels, were full of eyes round about, even the wheels that they four had. As for the wheels, it was cried unto them in my hearing, O wheel. And every one had four faces: the first face was the face of a cherub, and the second face was the face of a man, and the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle. And the cherubims were lifted up. This is the living creature that I saw by the river of Chebar. And when the cherubims went, the wheels went by them: and when the cherubims lifted up their wings to mount up from the earth, the same wheels also turned not from beside them. When they stood, these stood; and when they were lifted up, these lifted up themselves also: for the spirit of the living creature was in them. Then the glory of the Lord departed from off the threshold of the house, and stood over the cherubims. And the cherubims lifted up their wings, and mounted up from the earth in my sight: when they went out, the wheels also were beside them, and every one stood at the door of the east gate of the Lord's house; and the glory of the God of Israel was over them above. This is the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the river of Chebar; and I knew that they were the cherubims.
When they went, they went upon their four sides; they turned not as they went, but to the place whither the head looked they followed it—so, they must have gone in four directions at once. But you say, I know that’s impossible. I know that’s impossible with you and it is with me, but I’m sure we’re going to find out a lot of things in the Spiritual Realm that we cannot understand—they’re impossible with us today. But now they speak of the Glory of the Lord.
9/ Exodus 36: 37 - 38 And he made an hanging for the tabernacle door of blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen, of needlework; And the five pillars of it with their hooks: and he overlaid their chapiters and their fillets with gold: but their five sockets were of brass.
And here, we have the outer veil. The veil that acted as the door of the
tabernacle. It did not have the Cherubims woven in it. Now there is a difference—and what does this difference teach? Until you are inside Jesus Christ, you’ll never really know the Glory of God. Until you’re saved and in Christ, you cannot understand this wonderful Glory.
10/ Then, of course, the Cherubims were not on the first veil because if
these Cherubims had been on that veil you could see them from the
outside. No one on the outside could see the Cherubim, you had to get
inside to see that and see the Glory.
11/ This veil was the door and this veil speaks of Jesus Christ as the door, which the second veil speaks of Christ in His Glory. Now, Christ said, “I am the door.”
John 10: 7 Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.” And then, again, in the 9th verse, “I am the door; by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved.” Jesus didn’t say, I’ll let you in at the door, He said, “I am the door.”
And, that’s a very remarkable thing. Now that was true of the sheep folds of that day—a man who kept sheep was usually a poor man, and the sheep folds were very crudely built. They chopped trees and piled up brush and made a wall around to keep the sheep in at night. And, that’s all that was necessary to keep the sheep at night. They were out in the pasture all day. The shepherd would bring them back in the evening and there was an opening, through which the sheep would pass into the sheep fold. The shepherd would lead his sheep and he would always be ahead of the flock. Then he would stand at the opening and he would examine every sheep—for he knew them all by name. And, if one had been bruised or cut, he would put some healing oil on it. But, the shepherd himself was the door—there was no door, there was just an opening. The sheep could not get in unless he would let them in. He stopped every sheep as it came to go in, examined it, and then let it go in. He was the door. At nighttime he slept right in the doorway. If any wild animals came, he was the door, they had to get to him first. And, that is the picture of Jesus Christ.
12/ Now, the second veil, the one before the Ark of the Covenant, the
entrance to the Holy of Holies—the Presence of God, could only be entered one time a year on the Day of Atonement and then, only by the High Priest—and only with blood. Any priest that had taken blood from the altar and had washed at the laver, could go through the first veil into the Holy Place; but, he couldn’t go through the second veil. The first veil did not say “keep Out” and any priest could go in there.
But, we read in Hebrews 10: 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,—and, why is it that we can all enter right now—is there no veil? No, there is no veil!
But notice the 20th verse By a new and living way, which he has consecrated for us, through the veil that is to say, his flesh;
When Christ’s flesh was rent, the veil was rent and we go through by the blood of Jesus Christ and we can stand in God’s presence.
13/ Now, the veil before the Holy of Holies, the Presence of God, was held up by four pillars of wood covered with gold. And many think this speaks of the four gospels portraying Jesus Christ and His earthly life—His life in the flesh. And it was held up by sockets of silver. And again this speaks of redemption, this speaks of us telling forth the redemption story. So, the four gospels tell of Christ in His flesh for the silver speaks of His testimony.
14/ The first veil was of five pillars and that by sockets of brass. Now, five, of course, speaks of grace. You enter into Christ by His grace and the sockets of brass, of course, speak of judgement for brass is judgment always. The great altar outside was of brass and it was there that God dealt with sin. Now, when you went into the Holy Place, you passed over the sockets of brass—so, you must stand over judgement. Judgement is passed, judgement is behind you the moment you are inside the door. For, you have stepped over the sockets of brass there is no more judgement you are in the place of redemptIon. How wonderful it is to have the privilege of being in CHRIST!
How much more wonderful to live under GRACE than under LAW!
AMEN
